From Dialogue to Collective Intelligence
METTA stands for Model for Enabling True Trusted Agreement. It transforms how groups approach complex problems by channeling collective intelligence through structured deliberation.
At its foundation, METTA uses a dialogue process designed for three participants as its building block. This process can scale recursively to include broader perspectives while distilling policy solutions. Each three-person dialogue feeds into the next, building topic-based knowledge into comprehensive narratives.
The process operates through five distinct stages. Participants begin with Argumentation, stating their initial positions on a chosen topic. They progress through Inquiry, where two engage in focused questioning while a third moderates. In Ideation, ideas are proposed and scrutinized by the group. Discernment applies critical analysis to develop promising concepts further. Finally, the Solution stage produces a written statement capturing the refined outcome.
Three types of tokens structure this progression. Time tokens balance participation, ensuring everyone contributes equally. Truth tokens signal agreement or interest, quantifying support for ideas and determining which advance to the next stage. Respect tokens acknowledge thoughtful conduct, building reputation that carries forward into subsequent processes.
This token system makes deliberation transparent and accountable. Ideas must earn advancement through demonstrated group support, typically requiring minimum thresholds of agreement tokens to progress. Solutions are scored by both the agreement they generate and the time invested in creating them, providing meaningful measures of collective confidence.
METTA scales through parallel processes and refinement layers. Solutions from initial dialogues seed further processes, undergoing iterative development as they incorporate additional knowledge and expertise. Truth tokens indicate how deeply solutions have been discussed across multiple iterations. Respect tokens show participant conduct and relevant knowledge, determining who carries solutions forward to higher-level processes.
This creates a filtering effect. The most robust policy solutions emerge from sustained discourse, refined many times over and woven into coherent narratives. Simultaneously, participants who consistently demonstrate wisdom and respectful engagement gain standing, developing from interested individuals into informed contributors whose insights shape collective outcomes.
The framework adapts to virtually any setting. Small teams use it for strategic planning. Organizations deploy it for governance decisions. Communities apply it to local challenges. Online forums can structure discourse across thousands of participants. The process remains the same: diverse perspectives, structured exchange, emergent consensus.
METTA operates on a simple premise. When you balance speaking time, make agreement visible, reward respectful engagement, and require ideas to earn advancement through genuine support, groups produce solutions that reflect true collective intelligence rather than compromise or dominance. The result is policy formation that accounts for the full spectrum of interests while identifying the best path forward.
